Unyielding Guardians of the Frontline
Tanks are the most durable heroes in Mobile Legends, built to absorb damage, initiate teamfights, and protect their carries. Most Tanks play the roam position, equipping Roaming Boots to generate independent gold and experience through assists and vision reveals while rotating between lanes. A skilled Tank controls the tempo of the match through map awareness, objective setup, and well-timed crowd control. Some Tanks with strong base damage or sustain, such as Gatotkaca, Hylos, and Gloo, can also hold the EXP lane when the team needs extra frontline.

Initiate fights with crowd control, absorb burst damage aimed at your damage dealers, and peel for carries when enemies dive the backline. Position between the enemy frontline and your backline to create space for your Marksman and Mage to deal damage safely.
Tanks are the team's frontline. They initiate fights with crowd control, absorb burst damage aimed at carries, provide map vision by checking bushes and revealing enemy positions, and peel for damage dealers by bodyblocking or stunning enemy divers. In ranked, Tanks typically play the roam position, rotating between lanes to create advantages across the map.
Roaming Boots cost 600 gold and provide movement speed and magic defense. They include Thriving, a passive that generates gold and experience independently through assists and enemy reveals. After accumulating enough roaming gold, you unlock a Blessing. Conceal grants temporary camouflage for engage setups. Encourage buffs nearby allies with bonus attack and defense. Dire Hit adds percentage-based damage to low-HP targets. Favor heals the lowest-HP ally when you heal or shield. Tanks buy Roaming Boots as their first item because they do not farm minion waves.
Build items that counter the enemy team's primary damage threats. Against heavy physical damage, prioritize Antique Cuirass and Dominance Ice. Against magic burst, build Athena's Shield or Radiant Armor. Dominance Ice also reduces enemy healing and attack speed, making it effective against sustain-heavy compositions. Check the scoreboard to identify which enemy deals the most damage, then itemize against that threat first. Immortality is a strong late-game option for a second chance in decisive teamfights.
Several Tanks with strong sustain or base damage can hold the EXP lane effectively. Gatotkaca, Hylos, Gloo, and Baxia are popular EXP lane Tanks in the current meta. Playing a Tank in the EXP lane gives your team extra frontline durability while freeing the roam position for a Support hero. EXP lane Tanks build defense items directly instead of Roaming Boots, since they need to farm minion gold for their item progression.
