The Land of Dawn didn't start with ranked matches. It started with a war so ancient that even the gods were trying to forget it.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has quietly built one of the richest worlds in mobile gaming. Most players ignore it entirely. That's fine, you can hit Mythic without reading a single hero biography. But if you've ever wondered why Lunox carries the weight of two worlds inside her, or what actually connects Gusion to Guinevere to Aamon to Marcel, you're in the right place.
This is the full MLBB lore guide. Factions, timeline, hero connections, power rankings, and where to read the lore yourself.
#The World: What Is the Land of Dawn?
The Land of Dawn is the continent that holds everything. The Moniyan plains, the frozen North, the dragon-ruled East, the scorching desert in the West. It's not just a backdrop, it's the battlefield in the most literal sense.
The name is deliberate. Dawn represents the moment between dark and light, the constant tension at the heart of the story. Every faction, every hero, every arc comes back to that same question: who gets to decide the fate of the world after the sun rises?
The continent is massive, divided into distinct regions that function almost like nations. Each one has its own history, its own heroes, and its own version of what's right.
#The Major Factions
The Moniyan Empire
The Moniyan Empire is the biggest player in the Land of Dawn. Think of it as the dominant civilization: fertile plains, a powerful military, a monarchy, a Church of Light with its own agenda, and enough political drama to fill ten seasons.
The Church of Light (also called the Monastery) is the real power behind the throne. They control the Imperial Knights, they run the Ravens (an elite kill squad), and they cover up their own atrocities with scripture and silence. Tigreal is their most decorated knight. Alucard was their loyal soldier before the truth about his father destroyed his faith in them completely. Natalia is their ghost, an assassin who questions none of her orders.
The royalty is its own mess. Princess Silvanna is the current heir, trained as a warrior-mage, and deeply devoted to her lost brother Dyrroth, who happens to be the Abyss's most dangerous weapon now.
Key heroes from the Empire:
- Tigreal. The face of Moniyan military prestige, haunted by the massacre he survived and was forced to stay quiet about.
- Alucard. Turned against the Monastery after learning his father's regiment was sacrificed and the military lied about it.
- Harith. A mage who lost his homeland but found his footing in Moniyan's armies.
- Xavier. Became the youngest Arbiter in the Knights of Light. Then defected when the rot became too obvious to ignore.
- Julian. Son of Terizla, raised by Ravens as a weapon, eventually broke free from his conditioning.
- Fanny. Born from Moniyan military stock, fiercely independent, does not play politics.
- Granger. Raised by the Monastery. His past is still partially unwritten.
- Benedetta. Orphaned by the same cover-up that destroyed Alucard's world. Rejected by the very institution that owed her.
- Marcel. A House Paxley photographer and the newest face of Moniyan's complicated aristocracy. His story "Snap" reveals the unsettling way his camera, Clemar, seems to freeze the world more than anyone intended.

The Shadow Abyss
The Abyss is not just a villain faction. It's a dimension, a force, a wound in the Land of Dawn that never properly healed.
Before the current age, the Lord of the Abyss and the Lord of Light fought an endless war. That war carved a scar into the continent itself: the Shadow Abyss. Demons live there, feed there, and want nothing more than to consume the light world above.
The Abyss has a loose hierarchy. Alice is the ancient queen, one of the oldest beings in the setting, who has watched empires rise and fall. Thamuz is the Lord of Lava, the Abyss's most fearsome military force. Dyrroth, once Prince Aurelius of Moniyan, was kidnapped as an infant by Alice and raised as a son of darkness. He became a weapon against the very family that lost him.
Selena is the Abyssal Witch, a dark elf who chose the Abyss over the elven world that rejected her. Vexana and Leomord operate from Necrokeep, a kingdom of the undead at the edge of Moniyan territory, aligned with but not entirely controlled by the Abyss. Faramis is the dark scholar who shares a long, complicated history with Vexana going back to their childhoods.
And then there's Terizla, a blacksmith whose son was taken by the Monastery, who spent a decade in prison before Alice freed him. He now forges weapons for the Abyss because the Moniyan side of the story left him nothing.
The Project NEXT 2025 update revamped Alice, Thamuz, and Dyrroth with new designs that reflect the Abyss as it truly is: shattered terrain, jagged structures, and the constant reminder that nothing soft survives here. Obsidia, the Sovereign of Dark's End, arrived in Season 38 as the Abyss's newest marksman, hunting from its ruins with Bone Energy that grows more lethal the longer a fight lasts.
The Cadia Riverlands
If the Moniyan Empire is the story's political heart, Cadia Riverlands is its soul. This is where MLBB's best lore lives.
Based on East Asian aesthetics, the Riverlands is home to rival dragon cults, ancient martial traditions, and some of the most interconnected characters in the game. The central figure is Yu Zhong, the Black Dragon, who was reborn at the Dragon's Altar and grew into one of the most powerful beings on the continent. He is not simply a villain. He's a man who believes absolute power is the only honest form of protection.
The people who stand against him, or alongside him, depending on the arc, include Zilong, Ling, Baxia, and Wanwan. Wanwan of the Tang Clan actually met Yu Zhong before most heroes did, when he fell from the Dragon's Altar and was taken in by her clan.
The Scarlet Shadow is a separate faction within the Riverlands: a ninja village divided into competing sects. Hayabusa is from the Shadow Sect, raised to hunt Hanzo, the Akuma Ninja who consumed his own humanity to pursue immortal power. Hanabi is the Scarlet Sect's heir, gifted and burdened by her lineage. Kagura arrived carrying the Seimei Umbrella, a relic tied to the original Onmyouji Master who trained under the Great Dragon himself. The umbrella chose her. She had to grow into what it expected.

Other Key Regions
Northern Vale. The coldest part of the Land of Dawn, home to tribal warriors. Freya, Franco, and Bane come from here or are entangled with its coastal mythology. The Moniyan Empire tried to conquer it once. It did not go well for the Empire.
Eruditio. The city of scholars and technology, sitting in the mid-west of the continent. This is where Layla, Diggie, Alpha, and Beatrix operate. The Lethal Nexus arc put Eruditio in direct conflict with a villain named Octavius, and established it as one of the few places where science and magic actively compete.
Agelta Drylands. A vast desert in the west, home to nomadic peoples and ancient mysteries. Heroes like Khaleed and Badang carry this region's spirit.
The Celestial Palace and Beyond. Above the mortal plane, the Celestial beings exist outside normal rules. Zhask comes from space entirely, a planet-conquering entity who devoured worlds before arriving in the Land of Dawn. Yve is a Mithloran starlight guardian whose entire arc is chasing Zhask's destruction across the cosmos.
#The Timeline: From Creation to Now
The Beginning: The Unique God and the Endless War
Before the Land of Dawn had a name, there was a creator called the Unique God. From this figure came two opposing forces: the Lord of Light and the Lord of the Abyss. They waged an endless war over the continent. Neither could win. Neither would stop.
The Unique God's answer was Lunox. Born as a child with the power to hold both Order and Chaos inside herself, she stopped the war not by choosing a side but by absorbing both. When she released her power, both armies retreated. The shock pulse that ended the Endless War came from a girl, not a god.
After this, Lunox fell into a deep sleep, and the energies inside her crystallized into what lore calls the Twilight Orbs. These orbs became the most sought-after artifacts in the Land of Dawn, because whoever controls them controls the balance of the world.
The Era of Factions
With the Endless War paused (not resolved), civilizations grew. The Moniyan Empire rose in the fertile heartland. The Cadia Riverlands developed its martial traditions around dragons. Necrokeep formed from tragedy. The Abyss never stopped plotting.
The Church of Light positioned itself as the defender of the world's order, but it was always both protector and corrupt institution. This contradiction is the engine of Moniyan's entire narrative.
The Free Smith's Guild Purge (Year 0)
The MLBB timeline uses a single event as its anchor: the destruction of the Free Smith's Guild by the Monastery of Light, ordered by Bishop Rod Sidon. The Ravens executed the purge. Xavier was there. Terizla's family was destroyed. This is Year 0, and almost everything in the current storyline is measured against it.
Roughly 100 years before this, Vexana was engaged and moved to Ridgeburg. Her fiancé was later killed by Leomord, possessed by a demon on their wedding day. Ridgeburg became Necrokeep. Leomord has served Vexana ever since.
The Empire Reborn Arc
Approximately one to seven years after Year 0, the Abyss launched a full assault on the Moniyan Empire. Silvanna assembled the Lightborn: Harith, Granger, Alucard, Fanny, and Tigreal. They fought Dyrroth, Silvanna's corrupted brother.
This arc sold a lot of skins. It also legitimized Moniyan's political structure for the first time and gave Silvanna a proper place in the main story.
The Black Dragon Awakening
Happening roughly parallel to Empire Reborn in the Cadia Riverlands, this arc is the longest and arguably the best. Yu Zhong awakens. Ling and Baxia oppose him. Wanwan makes her choice. Zilong fights for his homeland.
The Lieh subplot, where it's retroactively added that a spirit of the old Black Dragon possessed Yu Zhong's ambitions, is the most disputed retcon in the fandom. Some accept it. Some treat it as the writing team changing their minds mid-arc.
The Fate Deniers Arc
Natan arrived from a future timeline where Thamuz had collected all the Twilight Orbs and the Abyss had won. He traveled back to prevent it, recruiting Lunox and Belerick. This arc entangled with the Paxley family storyline: Gusion, Aamon, Valentina, and the dark secrets of House Paxley. It introduced Edith and ended with open questions about the Gusion arc that remain partially unresolved.
4saken Light and the Current Era
Yin's story, discovered as a baby in a river in Cadia Riverlands, connects directly to Moniyan's current political unrest. At 17, he arrives in the Empire and befriends Melissa. Xavier defects from the Monastery. Julian breaks free from his Ravens conditioning. This is the most recent completed major arc.
The current "present-day" sees:
- Alucard (late twenties), hunting demons on his own, with a corrupted arm that constantly threatens to turn him.
- Tigreal (mid-thirties), still serving but carrying enormous guilt.
- A cold war in Cadia Riverlands between Great Dragon and Black Fierce Dragon factions.
- Necrokeep under threat from the Abyss again, this time with Terizla among the attackers.
- Marcel, newly arrived as the House Paxley arc's most recent face, his camera revealing truths that people wish stayed hidden.
#Hero Connection Webs
Some heroes only make sense when you know who they're connected to. Here are the most important clusters.
The Paxley Web Gusion and Aamon are brothers. Valentina is entangled with the Paxley family's dark secret. Guinevere's history intersects with Gusion (their relationship has been retconned multiple times, currently framed as a genuine connection rather than a political arrangement). Marcel is the newest Paxley, an artistic outsider who fits the family's grotesque elegance. Melissa is possibly of Paxley blood, though her exact connection remains open.
The Moniyan Military Web Tigreal mentored Alucard. Alucard's father died alongside Benedetta's father in the same covered-up massacre. Granger and Natalia were both raised under the Monastery. Xavier broke Tigreal's record, then broke with the institution entirely. Julian is Terizla's son, raised as a raven weapon without knowing it.
The Scarlet Shadow Web Hayabusa and Hanabi are rivals who are drawn together. Hanzo is Hayabusa's primary mission. Kagura is connected to Hayabusa through the Seimei Umbrella's lineage. The umbrella belonged to the first Onmyouji Master, Seimei, who trained under the Great Dragon, linking the Scarlet Shadow directly to the Cadia Riverlands' dragon mythology.
The Twilight Orb Web Lunox holds the first Orb inside herself. Natan came back from the future specifically because of what happens when Thamuz collects all of them. Belerick has been helping Lunox gather them. This web connects directly to the Conflict of Dawn (now retconned) and to every major war arc in the game.
#Lore Power Rankings: Strongest Heroes by Story
This is not about win rates. This is about what the lore actually says.
S Tier: World-Breaking Force
Lunox sits at the top. She absorbed the powers of both the Lord of Light and the Lord of the Abyss simultaneously, ended a war that neither divine lord could win, and holds enough energy inside her that when she re-awakens fully, every hero in the Land of Dawn loses their powers. She is the reset button of the universe.
Zhask is a close second for scope. He has devoured entire planets. The Mithloran civilization sent Yve specifically to stop him because one entity disrupting the cosmic balance is that serious. He's not the most powerful being in the Land of Dawn, but he might be the most dangerous one on a galactic scale.
Yve created stellar systems. She is ancient in a way that makes most heroes look like teenagers. Her conflict with Zhask spans civilizations and light-years.
A Tier: Exceptional Within the World
Alice is the oldest active player in Moniyan-adjacent politics. She has watched kingdoms rise and collapse. She kidnapped Dyrroth because she recognized his potential. She freed Terizla because she could use him. Nothing Alice does is impulsive.
Yu Zhong required three top-tier fighters (Baxia, Ling, Zilong) fighting simultaneously and still nearly lost. His power grows the more he embraces the Black Dragon. He is the most physically dominant being in the Cadia Riverlands arc.
Hanzo consumed his own humanity for power. The Akuma Ninja is genuinely terrifying in the lore, a genius who chose the void.
B Tier: Elite Warriors
Tigreal, Silvanna, Dyrroth, Thamuz, Leomord, Freya, Hayabusa, and Vexana all sit here. These are extraordinary beings by any standard, they just don't bend reality the way the tier above does.
#Where to Read the Lore
The official home for MLBB lore is play.mobilelegends.com/lore/home. It hosts:
- The official comics (including the Black Dragon arc, 4saken Light, Fate Deniers)
- Hero story chapters (each new hero gets a written story)
- Side stories and skin lore
The comics are free to read. Marcel's story "Snap" is currently live. The Obsidia story content accompanies the Abyss revamp from Season 38.
Inside the game, hero biographies are the primary lore source. Go to your hero collection, select any hero, and read the biography tab. These are the most reliable canon documents, since they're the direct output of Moonton's lore team.
The MLBB Fandom Wiki (mobile-legends.fandom.com) is the best community resource. It compiles biographies, comic summaries, regional lore, and character relationships. The wiki also flags retcons, which is useful when you're trying to figure out what's actually current.
For deep-dive discussions and analysis, r/MobileLegendsGame on Reddit has an active lore community. The detailed timeline breakdowns posted by veteran fans there remain some of the most useful reading for anyone who wants to track where events line up.
#A Note on MLBB's Lore: Honest Advice
The lore is inconsistent. Moonton has rewritten characters multiple times. Guinevere's backstory has changed at least three times. Alucard's origin was completely overhauled in Project Next. Harith's biography contradicts his own comics.
None of that means the world isn't worth exploring. It means you should read it like a living document, not a finished book. What Moonton has built, despite its flaws, is a world with genuine emotional weight. Terizla's story is devastating. Vexana and Leomord's is quietly heartbreaking. Lunox's is cosmically sad.
The best approach: read the biographies first. Then the comics. Then come to the Reddit discussions with specific questions. You'll get ten different opinions on what's canon. That debate is part of the fun.
The Land of Dawn is big. You don't need to know all of it to play well. But if you're reading this far, you've already decided you want to know it. Start with Lunox. Her story explains the origin of everything that matters.
